Privacy policy

Last updated September 30, 2026. Reel Nauti Charts is a boating app that shows Florida manatee zone rules and helps you plan trips.

Your location. Navigation, zone alerts and the map use your device's location on your device. We don't collect your location in the background. It only leaves your phone if you choose to: starting a live location share (a link that expires), sharing a float plan, or opting in to share with a rental company that you're renting from. Shared locations are stored temporarily so the people you shared with can see them, then expire.

Usage counts. To see which features get used, the app adds one to a daily count when something happens, such as opening the app or planning a route. The count is just a number per day per feature: no account, device, IP address or location is attached, and there are no cookies or ad trackers. It is skipped entirely if your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.

Rentals. When you start a rental with a rental company, tapping Start is your agreement to share your live location with them. They see your name (if you gave one), the craft, your live position and speed, and your return time. Tracking runs until you are back at their dock or they end your rental, and you cannot switch it off from the app while you ride. We keep your route (a breadcrumb trail), trip statistics and any zone alerts for the rental company for 30 days, plus a short record of the rental (your name, the craft, when you went out and came back) so they can review their rentals. If you use the Android app and allow notifications, your phone's notification address is stored with your active rental so the rental company can message you and remind you when your time is nearly up; it is removed when the rental ends.

Your account. If you create an account we store your email address and, for email sign-up, a securely hashed password. If you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google. We use these to run your account and your free trial. We don't sell your information.

The AI Captain. When you ask the Captain something, your message and the trip details needed to answer (such as your boat settings, route and nearby places) are sent to our AI provider, Groq, to generate a reply. The Captain can remember your boat and preferences on your device.

The Fleet Captain (rental companies). When a rental company asks the Fleet Captain about its fleet, the names renters gave, the craft they chose, their current positions and speeds, and return times for that company's active rentals are sent to Groq to write the reply. Nothing is kept by us for this beyond the normal rental record described above.

Messages with a rental company. If you write to a rental company from your map or ride link, or they write to you, the messages are kept with that rental so both sides can see the conversation, and are deleted with the rest of the rental data after 30 days. Anyone who has your private ride link can read and write in that conversation.

Payments. Subscriptions and featured listings are paid through Stripe. Stripe collects and processes your card details; we never see or store your full card number. We keep the customer and subscription identifiers Stripe gives us.

Businesses. If you list a business we store what you submit: name, description, contact details, links, logo and photos. Approved listings are public on the map.

Backup and sync (optional). If you turn on "Back up to my account" in Settings, your saved places, trips (routes, times and speeds), rides, passport stamps and boat settings are stored with your account so a new phone can restore them. Photos are never backed up; they stay on your phone. It's off until you turn it on, and you can delete the cloud backup from Settings at any time. Deleting your account deletes it too.

Replay links (optional). If you make a replay link for a trip, we store that trip's route, times, speeds, stamps and (only if you choose) up to six photos, and publish them on a web page that anyone with the link can open. By default the first and last quarter mile are left out so your dock isn't shown. Links aren't listed or searchable, and they stop working after 90 days. You can also stop sharing a trip at any time and the page is deleted.

Notifications (optional). If you turn on the Friday weekend outlook in the phone app and you're signed in, we store your phone's notification token (a random identifier from Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging), your boat type and up to four places you go, so we can send you the weekend forecast for them. Turn it off in Settings and the token is deleted. Google delivers the notification.

Wildlife sightings. When you tap a sighting such as "Manatee here", we store the animal, the position, the time and any note or photo you add, tied to your account, and show them to other boaters for a few hours. It then expires. If you turn on wildlife alerts, we store a spot near where you were (rounded to about 100 meters), how far you want to hear about, and your notification token, so we can tell you about sightings nearby. Turn the alert off and that goes.

Email. We send account emails (confirmation, password reset) and, for businesses, listing and billing notices. We don't send marketing email without your say-so.

Who handles data for us. Vercel (hosting), Supabase (database and accounts), Stripe (payments), Google (sign-in, email delivery and push notifications), Groq (AI replies) and map and weather data providers that receive the map areas or coordinates needed to load data.

Storage on your device. The app stores settings, saved places, trips, passport stamps and offline areas in your browser. Clearing your browser data removes them.

Your choices. You can use the core app without an account. You can delete your account and its data at any time (see below).

Delete your Reel Nauti Charts account

In the app or on this website: open Settings, tap My account and plan (or go to your account page and sign in), tap Delete my account, then Yes, delete everything. If your Plus subscription is billed through Google Play, cancel it in Google Play first; deleting the account doesn't stop Play billing. A subscription paid on this website is canceled for you.

To delete only your data and keep the account: in Settings, delete your cloud backup (places, trips, rides, stamps and boat settings); stop sharing any replay link to delete that page and its photos; and turn off the Friday outlook to delete your notification token.

If you can't sign in, email us from the address on the account and we'll delete it within 30 days.

Deleted right away: your account, email address, name and password, your plan and trial details, your cloud backup (saved places, trips, rides, passport stamps, boat settings), your replay links and their photos, your notification token and your place reviews. Kept: wildlife sightings and hazard reports you posted stay on the map until they expire or are cleared; business listings until the business asks us to remove them; rental records a rental company keeps under its own account; and payment records Stripe or Google Play must keep for tax and legal reasons. Anything stored only on your phone stays there until you clear the app's data or uninstall it.

Children. The app isn't directed at children under 13.

Changes. If we change this policy we'll update the date above.
